Groupe Institut de Soudure and its subsidiary Composite Integrity check the composite parts of Arnaud Boissières' new monohull
9/9/2015
Groupe Institut de Soudure and Composite Integrity have just carried out non-destructive testing on the composites of IMOCA, the new Open 60 monohull to be piloted by Arnaud Boissières, skipper and holder of the SNSM record. The aim of this intervention from partners of Le Bateau des Métiers by Aerocampus is to check the condition of the materials in order to ensure human safety and the integrity of the structures of the composite parts on-board the monohull.

Reinforced testing in the name of performance and safety
For three days, a team of experienced controllers from Groupe Institut de Soudure and Composite Integrity concentrated on the mast, the rudders and the boom, as well as on the reinforcing elements in the inner hull. "We take advantage of the experience and the presence of our two partners in Sables d‘Olonne to really push the checks to their limits, on other elements subjected to extreme stresses", stated Arnaud Boissières.
After removing the mast and transporting it to the workshop, the mast, which is 27 metres long, was examined at 700 different points. The boom and the rudders were also inspected. "The boat undergoes an ultrasonic scan to ensure there is no pre-damage", explained Jérôme Raynal, sales director of Composite Integrity. Tap tests were also carried out to detect any faults in the glued assemblies.

Thanks to the expertise of the controllers, IMOCA underwent non-destructive testing in optimal conditions using cutting-edge techniques, which are notably used for aircraft.
Expertise from the aeronautics field applied to the nautical world
The project to get this racing yacht ready began in Aérocampus Aquitaine. Today, the South-West of France is a flagship of the nautical industry, with over 400 companies present, 2,400 employees and over 300 million euros of annual turnover. The objective of Le Bateau des Métiers by Aérocampus is to prepare a racing yacht for the Vendée Globe in the form of a training workshop, where all skills of the South-West - naval and aeronautic - will be visible for all to see.
Use of ultrasound technologies to check the condition of the material
Non-destructive testing by Groupe Institut de Soudure and Composite Integrity, its 50% subsidiary along with PPE, is one of the skills of the project's financial and technical partners. Certified NADCAP NDT for aeronautics, Composite Integrity is a unique platform in Europe, bringing the most effective control technologies together in the same place. "Le Bateau des Métiers by Aérocampus enables exchanges between industrial partners from different horizons", added Arnaud Boissières.

On the Transat Jacques Vabre starting line
Arnaud Boissières and his co-skipper Stanislas Maslard will be taking to the seas on-board IMOCA on 25th October for the start of the Transat Jacques Vabre. "We are very proud to be partners of Le Bateau des Métiers by Aerocampus, and we are convinced that the quality of the materials from which it is made will allow Arnaud Boissières and Stanislas Maslard to sail a great race in 2015, as well as the next Vendée Globe in November 2016", said Abdelkrim Chehaibou, Research Director of the Group and Managing Director of Institut de Soudure (association) and Chairman of Composite Integrity.

COMPOSITE INTEGRITY, dedicated to non-destructive testing of composite parts, is a joint company of Groupe Institut de Soudure and PPE.
It has been installed in the Composite Park in Porcelette in Lorraine (Eastern France) since 2010 and on the site of Aérocampus Aquitaine since 2014. Composite Integrity offers industrial firms its expertise in non-destructive testing on composites at every stage of their projects: NDI on serial parts in production, expertise, new NDT techniques development, consultancy and training of controllers. Composite Integrity is certified ISO 9001, EN 9100, PRI NADCAP NDT and PR5120.
GROUPE INSTITUT DE SOUDURE: Groupe Institut de Soudure (1,000 employees, 30 locations in France and 9 globally, €100 M turnover in 2014) lends its expertise in the fields of metallurgy, composites, assembly and related testings to industrial firms, during their phases of designing, manufacturing and maintaining industrial equipment. The Group brings together six strategic activities: inspection, testing, expertise, training and certification of staff, research and training, certification of companies and products.
PPE: an international technology transfer centre, PPE is specialised in composite materials. Certified ISO 9001/EN 9100, it is involved in the processing of composite materials with continuous fibres and thermoplastic or thermosetting matrices. Since it was founded, more than 600 technology transfers have been realized all over the world.
AEROCAMPUS AQUITAINE: for three years, this campus dedicated to the aeronautics and space sector has been bringing together partners and expertise and is now recognised by large groups (Dassault Aviation, Airbus Helicopter training Services, Airbus Group, Telespazio, Saft, etc.). Le Bateau des Métiers by AEROCAMPUS is more than just a concept; it's a genuine symbol of economic development in the maritime sector, combining aeronautical and naval expertise to train our youth and benefit our industries.
The Federal's pistol slid into its holster and his sabre flashed out. He threw its curved point up in a splendid salute. Ferry saluted with his straight blade. Then both swords rang back into their scabbards, and Jewett whirled away toward his column. For a moment we lingered, then faced to the left, trotted, galloped. Over the fence and into the road went he--went I. Down it, as we crossed, the blue column was just moving again. Then the woods on the south swallowed us up. "All right, sir." that before. Meanwhile the parallelism between Thought and Extension was not exhausted by the identification just analysed. Extension was not only a series of movements; it still remained an expression for co-existence and adjacency.412 Spinoza, therefore, felt himself obliged to supply Thought with a correspondingly continuous quality. It is here that his chief originality lies, here that he has been most closely followed by the philosophy of our own time. Mind, he declares, is an attribute everywhere accompanying matter, co-extensive and co-infinite with space. Our own animation is the sum or the resultant of an animation clinging to every particle that enters into the composition of our bodies. When our thoughts are affected by an external impulse, to suppose that this impulse proceeds from anything material is a delusion; it is produced by the mind belonging to the body which acts on our body; although in what sense this process is to be understood remains a mystery. Spinoza has clearly explained the doctrine of animal automatism, and shown it to be perfectly conceivable;569 but he has entirely omitted to explain how the parallel influence of one thought (or feeling) on another is to be understood; for although this too is spoken of as a causal relation, it seems to be quite different from the logical concatenation described as the infinite intellect of God; and to suppose that idea follows from idea like movement from movement would amount to a complete materialisation of mind; while our philosopher would certainly have repudiated Mr. Shadworth Hodgson¡¯s theory, that states of consciousness are only connected through their extended substratum, as the segments of a mosaic picture are held together by the underlying surface of masonry. Nor can we admit that Spinoza entertained the theory, now so popular, according to which extension and consciousness are merely different aspects of a single reality. For this would imply that the substance which they manifest had an existence of its own apart from its attributes; whereas Spinoza makes it consist of the attributes, that is to say, identifies it with their totality. We are forced, then, to conclude that the proposition declaring thought and extension to be the same thing570 has no413 other meaning than that they are connected by the double analogy which we have endeavoured to explain. ¡°Oh, he¡¯s welcome to it,¡± Sandy cried. ¡°I¡¯ve turned over a new leaf!¡± ¡°But¡ªare they?¡± He pulled a wire out a trifle from the sheath. The sergeant spent more time upon the oaths with which he embellished the counter-question as to how he should know anything about it, than would have been consumed in a civil explanation. "Doctor, he can't die. He mustn't die," said Shorty in agony. "The regiment can't spare him. He's the best soldier in it, and he's my pardner." AND ENTERS UPON HIS PARENTAL RELATIONS TO LITTLE PETE SKIDMORE. "Holy smoke, look there," gasped Monty Scruggs, as a company of rebel cavalry came tearing over the hill in front, to the assistance of their comrades. "That's about it," answered Shorty disdainfully. "That's the way with all cavalry, dad-burn 'em. They're like a passel o' fice pups. They're all yelp and bark, and howl and showin' o' teeth. They're jest goin' to tear you to pieces. But when you pick up a stone or a club, or git ready to give 'em a good kick they're gone, the devil knows where. They're only an aggravation. You never kin do nothin' with 'em, and they kin do nothin' with you. I never kin understand why God Almighty wasted his time in makin' cavalry of any kind, Yank or rebel. All our own cavalry's good for is to steal whisky and chickens from honest soldiers of the infantry. The infantry's the only thing. It's like the big dog that comes up without any special remarks, and sets his teeth in the other dog. The thing only ends when one dog or the other is badly whipped and somethin's bin accomplished." "Mmm." Reuben started out of the half-waking state into which he had fallen. It was late in the afternoon, the sunlight had gone, and a wintry twilight crept up the wall. Maude the dairy-woman was looking in at the door. It was about a month subsequent to this, that one morning, as Turner was making the anvil ring with the ponderous strokes of his hammer, two retainers from the castle entered the shed, and delivered an order from De Boteler for his immediate attendance. Wat laid the hammer on the anvil, and, passing the back of his right hand across his forehead, to clear away the large drops that stood there, looked with a kind of smile at the men as he said, HoMEãñÔóÂÜÀËIJ¿ºÍ¼¯ÏÂÔØ
